To truly become a high-functioning member of society, you’ll need to have a versatile and wide skill set. Having the necessary skills for a lot of different situations means that you can give great contributions to society’s welfare as a whole. However, watching random tutorials on the internet isn’t going to get you anywhere. It would be better for you to get training or attend courses that complement each other. Here are a few examples

Training for Emergency Situations

An emergency can happen anytime and anywhere. It might be a medical emergency or could escalate to a search and rescue situation. Most times, emergency response personnel are present within minutes. But what if the situation is so critical that you don’t have enough time to wait?

If you are worried about this kind of scenario happening to you, engaging in emergency training can help prepare you. Personnel like firefighters and paramedics usually undergo rigorous training to prepare them for the multitude of different emergencies they can face. But you won’t have to face the same kind of training if you only want to know what to do in those types of situations. Getting yourself trained in first aid is a good step and can already get you prepared for a lot of different medical emergencies. Some drills and exercises can teach you about environmental awareness and danger recognition.

Combat Training

These days, you just can’t tell when or where a potential threat might appear. You could be walking home one night and suddenly get attacked by a stranger. Being aware of your surroundings and steering clear of danger is the most important, but you also need to know how to defend yourself if a conflict is unavoidable. Taking martial arts classes is a good investment for your safety.

Choosing which type of martial art to train yourself in entirely depends on you. However, I would recommend taking up boxing or jujitsu. Boxing can help you keep distance, while jujitsu can make sure you have the upper hand when you and the attacker end up on the ground.

Knowing how to defend yourself is a valuable skill to have. It’s a great way to ensure your safety in a situation where you can’t get away from your attacker. However, your priority should always be to run away and get help.

Writing Classes

Being able to write coherent and meaningful sentences is something that most people will find invaluable in our digital age. If you want to make a noticeable impact with your posts on social media, a properly constructed set of sentences can garner your desired results. People are constantly hungry for content. It won’t be enough to have something interesting to say. You’ll also have to write it out in a way to keep people interested in what you are saying.

Sending emails is also something that could benefit from a few writing classes. Being tactful and knowing how to construct a proper formal email can work wonders with getting the results you want. A potential employer is more likely to give you attention if the email you sent fits every criterion of professionalism. Try writing a few sample emails or paragraphs as practice outside of writing class. If you’re using Microsoft Office, it might be a good idea to get OneDrive backups since you never know when your files can become compromised.

Acting Classes

You don’t necessarily need to aim to become an actor to take up acting classes. Acting is a skill that can prove useful in unexpected situations. Through acting, you can display a wide range of emotions and gestures to get your point across. This can prove useful for meetings or client negotiations. Teachers, lawyers, and managers are professions that can mix some acting into their skill sets to improve their quality of work. You can also take an acting class to detect telltale signs of lying—something that can be very useful in potential scams and fraudulent scenarios.

Cooking Classes

Knowing how to cook is a very handy skill to have and is applicable for many situations. If you get hungry in the middle of the night, you can cook up a quick meal instead of having to go out. If you’re trying to save money and can’t afford to get take-out meals, you can get some cheap ingredients and cook something nutritious and filling. You can even use cooking as a means to try and impress someone. Try to set some time for two or three cooking classes to get yourself familiarized with the basics.
